How to reuse waste water from water purifier

In the current era of increased environmental hazards, it is necessary that we use the resources carefully and make use of them again and again whenever possible. This is crucial in today's time as we must incorporate sustainable development and conserve some resources for future generations.

A very easy method to give something back to the environment is to save as much water as we can. We can achieve this by primarily limiting the usage of water i.e. controlling the amount of water being wasted. Secondly, we should try to reuse the water which generally goes down the drain or is thrown away as a by-product, and if possible, we should use water again and again.

Wastewater generated by water purifiers

One of the things that people generally overlook in their households is the wastewater produced by the RO water purifier. This proportion of water normally goes to waste and is equivalent to the wastage of water on a daily basis. It is a lesser-known fact how much water goes waste as generally, we do not measure the waste water as we just let it run down the drain. Although we might think that it is generally a small amount, it is not.

As a fact, for every litre of purified water that we receive, the purifier gives out approximately 3 litres of wastewater, which means that the proportion of pure water to waste water is 1 to 3. In simpler terms, we may comprehend that the amount of water we extract from the water purifier, around three times the same amount goes to waste.

This should be a well enough reason to incorporate the reuse of water but do we reuse this water at all?

Reuse of wastewater

To make sure that we do not waste the discharged water, this water can be reused. Let's learn how to reuse purified water and put this amount of water to good use instead of letting it run down the water pipes.

First of all, we should collect this water in a properly sized container [like a bucket] so that throughout the day you don't have to worry about water being wasted and at the end of the day you have all the extra water which got collected. By this method, you will save waste water.

Secondly, we can put this water to use for various chores. Make sure that you don't use this water for drinking or cooking as the TDS level of waste water is high and it is regarded unfit for human consumption.

Let's get familiar with what can be done with this saved wastewater:
  1. Washing utensils: one of the easiest ways to put this saved water to use is by washing your utensils. You can try to place the container near the sink so that you have direct access and can wash your utensils with this wastewater. You can also use this water to wash any other equipment which you use for your daily chores.
  2. Cleaning and Mopping: reuse of wastewater can be done by using it for the process of cleaning and maintaining tidiness in your house. You can use a mop and quickly dip it into the water and clean the floors regularly.
  3. Washing vehicles. It is always recommended that you wash your vehicle with a bucket rather than a hose. So why not use your RO waste water to do that? Moreover, using fresh water or tap water for washing your car every day is not necessary and should be avoided. Moreover, it is advised that you wash your vehicles on the road rather than inside your home so that the water can seep into the ground rather than go down the drain. It is a brilliant way to create the most use of wastewater.
  4. Watering trees or plants: the easiest way is to water the trees or plants in your locality to enrich the soil with this water and it may also recharge the level of groundwater during the same. You can also water the pots or plants in your home garden.
  5. Cleaning restrooms: taking care of sanitation is crucial in today's era. We can make it. Use this wastewater by using it to clean the floors, tiles, sinks, and taps in our restroom to get rid of any residue or dirt present in our washrooms. In addition to this, you can also use this saved water to flush your toilets as every flush uses a great amount of water from your tank which can be easily replaced with RO waste water.
  6. Washing clothes: an innovative way to use your wastewater produced by a water purifier is to connect it to your washing machines and use the same for rinsing or washing the clothes using detergent powder. This can save a huge amount of water as a lot of water is consumed by washing machines to wash clothes. However, if you have any delicate clothes or fabrics which might suffer a consequence, it is advised that you keep them aside and wash them separately with regular water. You can also use this water for pre-rinsing your clothes before putting them into the laundry or washing machine.
  7. Clean the pipelines: The wastewater can be used to clean any sewage pipes which are dirty or have accumulated dirt and got blocked over time. Due to the high level of TDS in the wastewater, it can clean the sewage pipelines and clear the path for an efficient flow of water in the future.

In addition to this, we can reuse the water for any household duty that involves cleaning, rinsing, dusting, or mopping. You can even create an innovative way in which you use the wastewater discharged from the water purifier. Hence, we should try our level best to save as much water as we can and reuse it in an eco-friendly manner.

So, wait no more and instantly start saving and using your wastewater in the way that suits you the most.
